Bran’s Direwolf Dog in Game of Thrones Dies Due to Cancer
As if there wasn’t enough despair in the world, fans of the biggest show in the world received some sad news. It was reported that Game of Thrones’ direwolf dog, Summer, passed away due to cancer.
It is safe to say that Game of Thrones’ direwolf dogs played an essential role in the storyline
When the show released in 2011, no one expected to fall in love with it to such extent. While the characters, scenes, and writing is impeccable, Game of Thrones’ direwolf dogs cannot be overlooked. Introduced as the symbol of House Stark, we first met with these lovely creatures in the first season. In order to save them from killing, Jon Snow asks Ned Stark to give the five direwolf pups to each Stark kid. Instantly after, they find a sixth one which Jon Snow keeps for himself. They all give their pets a unique name which is, Nymeria, Summer, Lady, Shaggydog, Grey Wind and Ghost. As the show progressed, Game of Thrones’ direwolf dogs played their own given roles.
Recently, it was announced that the dog who plays Summer has passed away due to cancer
In reality, Game of Thrones’ direwolf dogs are played by Northern Inuit dogs from Ireland. Bran Stark’s direwolf is called Odin and is owned by William Mulhall who runs Direwolf Tours in Northern Ireland. In 2019, it was announced that Odin has been diagnosed with cancer and fans raised donations for his treatment. However, recently it was announced that beloved dog has passed away. In an Instagram post, Odin’s owner announced the news. He wrote:
“Our family are at immense heartbreak to announce that Odin passed away early this morning. It’s difficult to put into words how this has impacted us as a family for Odin let a life like no other dog.”
Furthermore, he wrote:
“Odin was a family member first and we got him when he was a pup at seven weeks old. All we wanted were big dogs to take hiking and sleep at our feet in the evening beside the fire, everything after that was a bonus. Odin’s passing marks the end of a decade and the end of an era as he taught our friends and family a lot of lessons about life for one dog he has more stories than some people would.”

Indeed, the news of Game of Thrones’ direwolf dog’s passing is extremely sad. Odin’s brother, Thor, played Robb Stark’s Grey Wind in the show. These beautiful creatures will never be forgotten.
