At first, the movie was set for release as planned, not even planning for an early digital release. Now, Wonder Woman 1984 release date has been postponed until August. The coronavirus pandemic has finally caught up to the upcoming DC movie, delaying its release as well, just like every other movie in Hollywood. The outbreak of COVID-19 has an unprecedented impact on the global economy and the entertainment industry. With lockdown and self-isolation in effect across the globe, it has become one of the most feared pandemics in history. Perhaps even rightly so, the virus has taken an estimated 20,000 lives worldwide.

Wonder Woman 1984 Gets An August Release

To help flatten the curve, the entertainment industry is contributing by delaying the release date of their shows. The government has also decided to shut down cinemas and theatres to enforce lockdown and self-isolation procedures. In the process, Hollywood’s release calendar has been wiped clean for the next two months. Movies releasing in April or May will now be setting up a new release date, and now Wonder Woman 1984 is going to be among them.

The news comes from Variety who reports that the latest DC movie, starring Gal Gadot, will also be pushing back release date because of coronavirus. Wonder Woman 1984 will now release on August 14, 2020. Warner Bros originally had this date reserved for James Wan’s  Malignant. However, the movie along with In The Heights, and Scoob! will now move back indefinitely.

It was only a few days ago when there were rumors that Wonder Woman 1984 could move to on-demand. However, the movie declined the news of its digital release and it looked as if it will release as per the original plans. According to reports, director Patty Jenkins and producer Charles Roven pushed back the date to August.  The question now is, is this new date a final one or will we have to see a reschedule later?

While the pandemic is still at large with no vaccine in sight, is this going to remain like this for the next few months?
