The socially conscious Logic has done did it again: the rapper behind the powerful mental health performance at last year’s VMA awards shared the stage with innumerable immigrant children and parents as he performed his recent release “One Day” for the thousands of children separated from their parents on the US borders.
Logic took a bold step as he entered the stage wearing a black shirt with the words “F*CK THE WALL” which was seen as a protest against Trump administration’s policy for immigrants causing the families on the borders to separate. The initial video backdrop had a fully visualized “US Border Patrol” written on a yellow Barricade tape that was later lifted to reveal a background that read “We are all human beings”.
As Logic rapped “We do it for the children”, children of different ages from diverse ethnic backgrounds covered the stage. Each of them was carrying a white electric candle. Their shirts read “WE ARE ALL HUMAN BEINGS”, the same text that was revealed along with hundreds of parents waiting for their children on the other side of the previous screen.
The stage wasn’t just shared by kids who enacted to be immigrants; leaders from organizations like National Domestic Workers Alliance, United We Dream, and Make the Road New York leaders leaders were on stage along with their children.
One kid in particular who’s a youth leader from United We Dream found power in Logic’s work; in a press release the 15 year old Jefferson Arpi said that “Logic’s music video showed that even though our families face a lot of pain, we are strong, we are fighters, and we are human”. He also said he was very excited to have performed with Logic and it meant a lot to him to be able to represent his family because that his dad, Manuel Arpi, was in a detention camp. To date, Arpi’s father has been detained for nine months.

Once again Logic has me crying. He has the immigrant kids that were separated from their parents on stage and then brought out their parents #VMAS pic.twitter.com/bPDdZBJgP0

I actually got this message. It’s about the immigration separation. When the curtain came down, it was the parents reuniting with their kids

The kids reuniting w/the elders during Logic’s immigration-themed performance has me in tears. Ooooh. #VMAs I didn’t think he could top himself after the mental health performance pic.twitter.com/48b8Hh7YyO
