Actress Jameela Jamil has called out UK’s racism in its entertainment industry. She even said that not even Oprah Winfrey could have made it in the UK as she compared the lack of diversity in the British industry. She told that it was because of such an environment that she decided to move to the US in the first place. The 34-year-old star talked about moving to the US and seeing Robin Roberts hosting a morning show. With Oprah Winfrey also a big deal in the country, she realized that Winfrey could not have made it this far back in the UK.
Jameela Jamil Surprised At The Diversity In The US
Here is what Jameela Jamil had to say on UK’s racism:
“I remember coming to America five years ago and seeing Robin Roberts hosting Good Morning America and knowing that Oprah [Winfrey] is a really big deal. Oprah would never have made it in the UK.”
Jamil talked about this during an interview with Playboy. She also spoke of her abortion tweet. Some fans gathered to encourage her to go through the pregnancy. They told her to dismiss abortion; to them she said:
” My Twitter feed is a hot mess of people telling me they love my fetus. I’m like, No, you don’t. You don’t know me, you fu***ng creep…. I wasn’t in the mood for 19 years of fear and responsibility—and 10 months of my body and my mind and my hormones changing, and all the pain and discomfort that comes with a pregnancy I wasn’t ready for. And I wasn’t in the right relationship. It was just all wrong, so I protected myself. And I’d do it again.”
Jamil straight up said that those having a problem with her abortion only do so because they do not respect women’s rights. She explained that while the roles of a mother and housewife are noble, they are not the only two. People who continue to see all women in such roles need to change themselves.
