Movies and shows across the globe might be suspending their release and production, but not this Disney franchise. The outbreak of new coronavirus has resulted in closures of several movie productions for at least two weeks. However, Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker has a different approach to this. The movie has decided to release its digital copies in the US a little early as planned.

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker Gets A Digital Release For US Only

The Rise of Skywalker is Episode 9 and the final film of the skywalker saga. Originally, the movie was set for a digital release in the US on Tuesday, March 17. However, due to the new coronavirus, the movie decided to shift the plans. Governments around the globe are urging for social-distancing and some have even called for self-isolating strategies. Likewise, the US is also making efforts to reduce gatherings in public places and institutions. Due to this, Star Wars: The Rise of Skwaylker dropped on different streaming platforms four days earlier, March 13.

However, this is merely an assumption and no confirmation has come from Lucasfilm or Disney. Regardless, viewers and fans in the US can get their digital copies from Amazon, Google Play, Apple TV, iTunes, and a few other streaming platforms.

While people in the US will be enjoying their social-distancing by binge-watching all episodes of Star Wars, the offer is not for people across the Atlantic, in the UK. For the US, Frozen 2 is also dropping three months early on Disney+. Here is what CEO Bob Chapek said about this:

“Frozen 2 has captivated audiences around the world through its powerful themes of perseverance and the importance of family, messages that are icredibly relevant during this time. We are pleased to be able to share this heartwarming story early with our Disney+ subscribers to enjoy at home on any device.”

The new coronavirus has resulted in more than 8000 deaths globally and the best possible prevention seems to be washing hands with soap and social distancing. Stay safe everyone, may the Force be with you!
