The #MeToo Movement has taken Hollywood by a storm. Allegations of rape and harassment by some of Hollywood’s powerful names surfaced which caused a lot of destruction. And one of these powerful names was producer, Harvey Weinstein.
Nearly 80 women came forward with claims against Weinstein. Which led to the courts calling him for a hearing.
Last Wednesday, Harvey Weinstein was convicted by New York City Criminal Courts. And he was sentenced for 23 years in prison after being found guilty of rape and criminal sexual acts. However, along with 20 years in prison, he received five years of post-release supervision for criminal sexual act in the first degree. And as per NBC, three years in prison with five years of post-release supervision for rape in the third degree.
“We thank the court for imposing a sentence that puts sexual predators and abusive partners in all segments of society on notice,” District Attorney Cy Vance Jr. said in a statement. “And we thank the survivors for their remarkable statements today and indescribable courage over the last two years.
TIME’S UP President and CEO Tina Tchen shared she’s grateful for the courage and strength of the women who testified in court and expressed hope that “today’s sentence brings all of the survivors of Harvey Weinstein some measure of peace.”
Harvey Weinstein Hospitalized
However, after being sentenced to 23 years of prison on Wednesday, Harvey Weinstein was taken to the hospital in New York.
Moreover, Juda Engelmayer, Weinstein’s lawyer told E! News that Harvey was suffering from chest pains. And that is why the Rikers staff decided to send him back to Bellevue as a safety precaution. There he would be staying overnight. And Engelmayer then proceeded to appreciate the care and concern of the Department of Corrections office and staff.
