Why Black Widow Release Is Not Getting A Delay Amidst Coronavirus?
Disney might have taken the decision to delay New Mutants, but why are they undecided for the release of Black Widow? The coronavirus pandemic has caused several movies to receive a push back from Hollywood, in general, fearing poor business and health concerns. Disney has already announced the delay in the release of their upcoming live-action movie Mulan. However, they are not talking about Scarlett Johansson‘s new movie Black Widow.
Will Black Widow Get A New Release Date?
Mulan, New Mutants, and Antlers were going for release in the coming month. However, the coronavirus pandemic caused health concerns among masses, as the government decided to limit public gatherings. While New Mutants and Black Widow are both Marvel superheroes, their storyline shape in totally different ways. This is because New Mutants is a standalone movie and will not get a sequel. Therefore, it will not have a post-credit scene either, unlike typical Marvel movies. On the other hand, there is a lot going on with Black Widow, which makes it release timing crucial.
You see, with Black Widow Marvel will officially begin its Phase 4. While its shared universe storyline has indeed benefitted them in the past, it takes away flexibility. Each movie connects with one another and this time, there is a transmedia universe at play here. Disney+ streaming service will air TV shows like WandaVision and others which will fall in Phase 4 and those that may come in the future. If Black Widow gets a new release date, it will upset the carefully set storyline and all or any future releases will get affected.
Therefore, it is reasonable to believe that while Disney is working on deciding a new release date for Black Widow, they have not come to a decision yet. If they do, they might have to develop a detailed plan to minimize the ripple effect which the delay might cause.
For now, they have only a month to decide.
