Demi Lovato Opens Up About Her Relapse

When Ellen asked Demi what made her throw being sober for six years away in one night, Demi answered that she had gotten sober at the age of 19. That is the age when it isn’t even legal to drink. And she had gotten help at the time, taking a one-size-fits-all approach and just dove headfirst into sobriety – just sobriety. It wasn’t just her, it was her whole team. And it worked for them so they ran with it for a long time.

However, things started going downhill when her eating disorder went bad and it came to a point that people were checking what her Starbucks order was on her bank statement. It led to her being very, very unhappy. She asked for help for her bulimia but didn’t get the help she needed. She started thinking why was she six years sober and more miserable now than when she had been drinking?

So ultimately she reached out to her team members who were as unsupportive as they could be. Demi revealed most of her issues stem from her alcoholic father abandoning her so when her team did that to her, she felt the same trauma. So she drank, went to a party, did some other stuff and three months later, she ended up in a hospital with an OD.

How Does She Feel Now?

Demi Lovato took responsibility for her actions and realized it was her that had caused what had happened.

“I think it’s important that I sit here on this stage and tell you at home or you in the audience that if you do go through this, you yourself can get through it,” Demi Lovato said.

She then thanked Ellen for giving her the platform to talk about all this.
