The WHO has officially declared coronavirus a pandemic. Consequently, stock markets and industries have gone into a recession worldwide. The film industry expects a loss of $5 billion. Movies and TV shows have stopped filming. Despite the best efforts, the death toll has crossed 5,000 as of 13 March. With this in mind, Universal Pictures has postponed Fast and Furious 9 till next year.
Fast & Furious 9 postponed till April 2021
Fast 9 release date has been officially postponed to April 2, 2021. The movie was supposed to be released on May 22. The announcement came after exponential growth in cases outside China. Universal Pictures made the announcement on Twitter:

The decision made many fans frustrated. One went on to troll the Fast & Furious franchise:
I live my life a quarter-mile at a time… because traveling any further is impossible due to quarantine orders.
Fast and Furious 9’s delay was expected. Universal Pictures made 75% of its revenue from international cinemas in the last 3 releases. People are refraining from attending any large events or gatherings. Consequently, thousands of theaters have been empty for the past weeks. Releasing the movie on-time would result in a loss of millions of dollars in ticket sales.
The coronavirus pandemic is spreading
Fast and Furious 9 is just one of many movies that have been delayed by the pandemic. In fact, the list includes A Quiet Place: Part II and James Bonds’ No Time to Die. All these announcements come as the coronavirus seems to be spreading internationally. Global economies are going into a recession. Moreover, the number of cases in Italy, Spain, and Germany has increased exponentially. However, the postponement of Fast 9 is just the tip of the iceberg. Unfortunately, there is more bad news to follow.
