Julia Roberts Promotes Clean Cooking On Women’s Day
International Women’s Day is mostly about celebrating the existence and achievements of women. But it should also be about advocating for their rights, and practices to ensure the safety of these women especially in daily high-risk situations. Julia Roberts has been working for years to raise awareness on one dangerous issue that millions of women actually face on a daily basis. She wants to promote clean cooking, that is a safer practice. Let us explain to you how.
Why clean cooking is important?
This is actually an issue barely anyone talks about. And it needs more awareness so people can understand the risks of it. Preparing a simple meal for yourself or the family can actually be so dangerous.
Did you know that 3 billion people rely on solid fuels for their daily cooking? Not only is the gas and the fumes extremely toxic for your own health. But also for the environment. When burning inefficient cooking stoves, or open fires- wood, coal, charcoal, and animal waste fuels create fumes that will harm everyone.
The importance of avoiding this and practicing clean cooking can be understood by keeping in mind some more information. Every year, 2 million people die due to pneumonia, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, and heart disease. Cookstove smoke is one major cause for these issues.
Women are the ones mostly cooking food, and thus, they are at the highest risk.
Julia Roberts raises awareness
The Global Alliance for Clean Cookstoves was created, and launched by Hillary Clinton to work towards the goal that cooking should not be dangerous or kill.
Julia Roberts serves as a global ambassador for the cause which hopes to transform women’s lives. They are forming a market for clean cookstoves that result in better health, more safety, clean air, and a better environment.
Every year on Women’s Day, the oscar-winning actress talks about the issue and urges women to practice clean cooking.
On this Women’s day too, she wrote the important message to her followers and urged them to advocate with her:
