Are you telling me that you built a time machine… out of a DeLorean? When Marty McFly said this in 1985, he had no idea of the impact it would leave on pop culture. ‘Back to the Future’ is still regarded as one of the few perfect blockbusters in Hollywood. It was so good that a prequel of the trilogy was out of bounds. Recently though, the two stars reunited at a charity event. Seeing Christopher Lloyd and Michael J. Fox reunite sent fans down memory lane.
‘Back to the Future’ against Parkinson’s
“Going 88mph for the @michaeljfoxorg Poker Night,” is what Christopher Lloyd wrote to pay respects to his dear friend. It has been 35 years since the iconic film hit the cinemas. However, both Christopher and Michael J. Fox have maintained a close friendship since then. They reunited at Michael’s fundraising event for his charity “The Michael J. Fox Foundation”. It is especially dedicated to finding a cure for Parkinson’s disease, which cut short Michael’s career massively.
Fox’s career cut short
It is heartbreaking for fans to see Fox’s career take a turn for the worst after ‘Back to the Future’. He was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease in 1992, which meant it was an end to his movie career. He suffered from severe depression after that and developed a drinking problem. However, he came out publically in 1998 in a Senate hearing over Parkinson’s disease. In 2000, he formed “The Michael J. Fox” foundation, dedicated to finding a cure to this horrible disease. Since then, the charity has gathered $900 million and pushed ever so closer to a cure to this disease.
Fox recently underwent a spinal injury because of his ailment, and opened up about the disease, saying:
I realized that the understanding I’d reached with Parkinson’s was sincere but risked being glib. I’d made peace with the disease but presumed others had that same relationship when they didn’t.
We sincerely hope that Michael J. Fox’s struggle to find a cure to Parkinson’s comes to a positive conclusion. The ‘Back to the Future’ star still has a huge place in all our hearts, and will always have all the love and support of his fans. If you’d like to donate to his foundation, here’s the link.
