Ever since ‘Lord of the Rings’ ended in 2003, we have been aching to return to the Shire. This franchise revolutionized fantasy fiction for all times to come, especially for the silver screen. The Hobbit prequel tried to rekindle that flame, but the fans still felt starved. Now, however, we have a ‘Lord of the Rings’ TV show on our hands, in the works at Amazon Prime. The streaming giants have started the production, and this is what we can expect from the show.

It’s going to be a prequel to ‘Lord of the Rings’!

There was a lot of speculation about what the show will be about. Some thought it’ll be a remake of the movies. Meanwhile, others rumored that it might be a prequel. The latter was proven right when the “Lord of the Rings” Amazon twitter profile posted a map of Middle Earth.

They were considerate enough to upload full resolution images of it on Amazon Prime too. With this map, it was evident that the show will be set in The Second Age. This is thousands of years before the events of the Lord of the Rings movies, so there’s little chance of spotting familiar faces. However, the second age was the time when Sauron, the Dark Lord of Mordor forged the One Ring to rule them all.

This means we probably will see Gandalf, Elvish king Thranduil and Isildur, the ruler of men who kept the ring for himself. Therefore, much of the plot of the show will be familiar to the audience. This will be an interesting show for even the book readers. This is because of the books, written by J. R.R. Tolkein, which mention the Second Age only in passing. This is why book readers will be excited too!

Amazon Prime already renewed it for a second season

For now, we know for sure that the ‘Lord of the Rings’ series is renewed for a second season. Moreover, the rights deal cost $250 million and include rights for up to 5 seasons. Therefore, fans can sit back and relax as they have a lot of episodes to look forward to.

It looks quite evident that this TV series has the elements to be a blockbuster hit. People of all age groups already adore ‘Lord of the Rings’. Its simplicity and pure nature make it extremely watchable. Moreover, the beauty of the Shire is mesmerizing. Fans would be eager to look at the wonderful sights in New Zealand. We honestly cannot wait for 2021, when the show premiers!
