Last Week Tonight With John Oliver Focuses on CoronaVirus
The subject which is all over the news headlines these days is none other than CoronaVirus. Center Of Disease Control And Prevention reports the growing fear in the spread of the deadly virus globally.
The spread of the CoronaVirus disease
A vast number of people are affected in Italy and almost 80 people are dead. 5,328 cases have been reported in South Korea. Several cases are confirmed by CDC in the United States with the first death coming just two days before. China has more than 80,200 people infected by the virus.
Citizens are questioning how they can protect themselves.
John Oliver sheds light on the disease
John Oliver in “Last Week Tonight” talks about how the affected countries are dealing with the COVID-19’ massive outbreak.
what we are talking about is a sickness called COVID-19, caused by new strains of CoronaVirus.
Symptoms of the virus include cough, fever, sneezing, and shortness of breath.
it might be a good idea to talk about how and when coronavirus started spreading. And what precautions should we take to currently deal with the fast-spreading virus.
How this new strain emerged
The very first case popped up by the end of 2019 in Wuhan, China. After one month, Wuhan sealed off its borders.
More than 80,000 people are affected in China And over 2700 hundred people have died. Until now, CoronaVirus has spread in more than 76 countries and over 93,100 people are affected. Every country is dealing with the virus differently. Unlike quarantining citizens on a cruise ship or from closing off the borders, Vietnam produced this amazing public information video teaching how we can limit the spread of COVID-19 through proper hygiene.
Vietnam’s song raised awareness about CoronaVirus and led to a TikTok challenge
Vietnam made a song about how to prevent CoronaVirus infection and it has become everybody’s favorite. The song is so catchy that it has become a “TikTok Challenge”. (and it’s worth award-winning).
The song goes like:
“Wash our Hands, rub, rub, rub, rub evenly
Do not touch Eyes, Nose, mouth
And Limit Visits to crowded places
Push back the virus Corona, Corona”
@im.quangdang made this TikTok challenge, having around 1.9 million views in total.
Some countries have not responded to the CoronaVirus news well
The Diamond Princess Cruise Ship was put under “Quarantine” in Yokohama, Japan. Around 700 passengers tested positive for COVID-19, raising worries about the virus’s sudden spread. Experts say it is going to take more than a year or longer to make a COVID-19 vaccine.
Oliver ends the episode with this message:
Don’t Be Racist
Don’t Hoard Masks
Check The CDC Website
Wash Your Hands
And I guess we can say he aced the “Jealous CoronaVirus TikTok” challenge like a Champion.
