“Back to the future” too perfect to remake, says Tom Holland
Tom Holland says a Back to the Future remake was discussed, but the trilogy is too perfect.
Back to the Future is one of the most iconic trilogies in pop culture history. It is the “perfect trilogy” that has stood the test of time. Marty McFly and Doc Emmet Brown made an untouchable duo. So much so that no Hollywood producer, actor or director dares to touch what they achieved in this trilogy. However, recently there have been talks of a remake that has raised some ears. Tom Holland and Robert Downey Jr. are being considered to star as Doc and Marty in a Back to the Future remake! Here is what we know about it.
Tom Holland and Robert Downey Jr. in a deepfake scene
Recently, a deepfake video surfaced on YouTube with Tom Holland as Marty and Robert Downey Jr. as Doc Brown, and it went viral. It recreated a scene between the two from Back to the Future, and this raised many ears. As we all know, the two had a similar dynamic in Spider-man: Homecoming and Avengers: Infinity War. However, someone asked Tom Holland about it and he shared with us some important information!
Tom Holland confirms there have been talks!

Tom Holland has admitted that there had been talks in the past. He confirmed this on BBC Radio 1. However, he also said that the original is just perfect, and no one can one-up the original trilogy. He said this on BBC Radio 1:
I’d be lying if I said there hadn’t been conversations in the past about doing some sort of remake. But that film is the most perfect film, or one of the most perfect films, one that could never be made better.
That kind of rules out any possibility of a remake. But, he was down to recreate the scene with Robert Downey Jr just for some fan service:
If Downey and I could just shoot that one scene that they remade, for fun, he could pay for it because he’s got loads of money, I would do it for my fee. We could remake that scene
Fan Reactions – They do not want a remake
Many fans of the series do not want the trilogy to be recreated at any cost. They say that despite Holland and Downey Jr. having a similar dynamic to them as Marty and Doc. Moreover, many fans went on twitter and expressed their opinions quite passionately:
Back to the Future is on the list of films that you should never remake or reboot. Because it’s simply perfect. https://t.co/Bo3iEGlHv5

The original trilogy’s high regard makes these opinions understandable. All three movies give interesting dynamics to the characters and have a great plot. Even the director of the trilogy, Robert Zemeckis says the same. However, there is another reason why a Back to the Future 4 can’t be made. And that is Michael J. Fox and his Parkinson’s disease.
As we all know, Fox has been struggling with this disease for decades now. And sadly, that is why his acting career stalled after Back to the Future. Filming a 4th installment of the movie series without Michael J. Fox would be extremely unjust to him. Therefore, that alone is big enough a reason to not go forward with this movie.
In conclusion, we can say that a 4th Back to the Future seems unlikely. However, Tom Holland should be praised for admitting how perfect the original trilogy is. We can definitely look forward to a small recreated scene with him and Robert Downey Jr., just for fan service!
