Ricky Dillon comes out as gay

In his latest video titled ‘I’m Gay’ YouTuber, Ricky Dallon talked in length about how he reached this important realization and how tough the journey has been. For years he struggled to come terms with who he is but now he wants to be honest about his sexuality. With himself, and with the world.

He accepted that he is “1000% gay” but he is also scared about how his “religious” family is going to take it. Despite the fact that he had a “great childhood” with “great parents”, he knows it’s something they cannot believe or accept.

It was drilled into my brain from an early age that being gay is one of the worst things that could happen.” Ricky explains, “I am so terrified [my family’s] not going to accept me for being gay, because I know their beliefs.”

In fact, Ricky admitted that he has always wished to be true with his followers. He said in the video:

“I wanted to come out years ago. I’m not scared of telling you guys,”

Why he chose to come out

Ricky Dillon shared that he had to reveal this to the public because he “cannot move forward” in career or personal life if he is not honest about his sexuality. In fact, keeping this hidden made him feel “disingenuous and unauthentic.”

Because of keeping this part of his identity hidden, he was not able to create content for his followers. Even when did, the “crippling anxiety” he faced was there with him.

“There’s still so much of the world that is very homophobic and hateful and thinks that being gay is a lifestyle or something you choose. I did not choose to be depressed and have crippling anxiety over this for three years.”

Ricky, feeling pressurized because of the world and society, even tried to be ‘straight’. He had 12 girlfriends in his life and even though they were great… he “could not have been more wrong and awkward.” In that time period, he concluded that he was asexual. Because being gay was something he could not even think of.

But now, at long last he has figured out that this is who he is. And he feels relieved to share it with the world.

He also wrote a heartwrenching tweet later:

Ricky Dillon is an inspiration for so many. With this step, he has not only raised awareness on homophobia and unacceptance in society but also given so much strength to many others in the very same battle.
