Michael Jordan needs no introduction. He is the principal owner of the Charlotte Hornets of NBA. As a professional former basketball player, Michael played 15 seasons in the NBA. Out of these 15, he won 6 championships. When it came to games and asking questions, Kobe Bryant was just like his younger brother. They shared a strong bond. That’s what made Michael Jordan cry while he was delivering his speech at Kobe Bryant Memorial.
Michael Jordan’s Tearful Speech At Kobe Bryant Memorial
Starting his speech, Michael Jordan thanked Vanessa Bryant and the family for giving him the opportunity to speak on Kobe Bryant & Gianna memorial service. He soon got tearful and continued delivering his speech with tears running through his eyes.
Kobe was my dear friend. He was like a little brother. Everyone always wanted to talk about the comparisons between he and I. I just wanted to talk about Kobe.
Adding a little humor to his speech, Michael Jordan addressed the audience by saying:
We all have little brothers and little sisters who, for whatever reason, always tend to get in your stuff, your closet, your shoes, everything. It was a nuisance, if I can say that word. But that nuisance turned into love over period of time.
Michael says the admiration one’s younger siblings have for them can turn the nuisance into love. Kobe admired Michael, that’s why he would call him even late at nights whenever he wanted to ask something. Whereas; Michael himself admires Kobe’s passion.
He wanted to be the best basketball player there could be.
The Big Brother
When Michael Jordan got to know the real Kobe Bryant, he wanted to be the best big brother there could ever be. In fact, that’s what made Michael get used to the aggravation, late-night calls, and even the dumb questions. They talked about business and family, in fact, everything. Kobe Bryant was always trying to be a better person.
Now he’s got me. And I’ve to look at another crying meme for the next….
Michael Jordan is expecting to see the crying memes for the next 3-4 years. He says Kobe Bryant knew how to affect someone personally, even when he was a pain-in-the-a** sometimes. His sense of love always brought out the best in people.
About Gianna Bryant
Michael Jordan shared that a couple of months ago, Kobe Bryant sent him a text, telling him he is teaching his daughter some moves. He asked Michael what moves he was thinking of working on when he was growing up. In reply, Michael asked Kobe about the exact age, he said 12. So, Michael told Kobe:
At 12, I was trying to play baseball.
Michael further confirmed that this exchange of texts happened at 2 o’clock in the morning. He talked about the wonderful times they had together. He also shared his wishes for the Bryant family.
To Vanessa, Natalia, Bianka and Capri…My wife and I, we’ll keep you close in our hearts and our prayers. We’ll always be there for you. Always.
He always paid his respects and support to all the families who lost their loved ones in the tragedy. In the end, Michael asked everyone to live in the moment because life is too short.
When Kobe Bryant died, a piece of me died.
While looking at the arena, Michael said it feels like a piece of everyone died with Kobe.
