Sadly, a domestic violence act caused Amie Harwick’s death
According to the police reports, an ex-boyfriend, Gareth Pursehouse, attacked Amie Harwick and tried to strangle her. During the attack, Harwick fell from a balcony which resulted in severe injuries and ultimately, her death. In the past, she obtained restraining orders from the court against him. Tragically, the last incident resulted in her death.
I was so saddened to receive this news today. Dr Amie Harwick was my therapist. Her work changed my life. It’s truly heartbreaking that she passionately dedicated her life helping others heal from trauma and live freely. This shouldn’t have happened to her https://t.co/UepogmktSH

Following her death, Drew Carey has shared a petition against domestic violence
Recently, Whose Line is it Anyway host shared a petition titled, ‘Justice 4 Amie’, which demands changes in domestic violence laws. According to the petition:
“Domestic Violence is a serious concern for everyone. I recently lost a wonderful friend, Dr. Amie Harwick. She was murdered as a result of poor laws not protecting the victims and treating the offenders. I refuse to let her death be in vain. She was a doctor in the mental health field and advocate in the community. We need to do the same and advocate for Amie.”
Please sign this petition and chip in if you can. #JusticeForAmie
Thank you and bless you 🙏https://t.co/3eOfWhU5gb— ʎǝɹɐƆ ʍǝɹᗡ (@DrewFromTV) February 18, 2020
The petition also demands that the restraining order do not have an expiration date and the stalker/abuser should get mandatory counseling. Truly, it is a piece of tragic news for Drew Carey and Harwick’s family. However, let’s hope and pray that lawmakers take the necessary actions to revise the laws.
