Oscars 2020 saw many of the Awards go according to plan, but there was still room for some major snubs.
The Biggest Oscar Snub – Adam Driver Didn’t Win Best Actor
Many would argue that the Joker win was justifiable and it is, but that doesn’t stop us from crying over Adam Driver not winning the best actor Oscar. Adam Driver in Marriage Story gave the best performance of his career and its really sad that no award show, including the Oscars, didn’t recognize his talent.
The Irishman Was Completely Shut Out
As soon as The Irishman was announced, it was an Oscars frontrunner. With Martin Scorsese directing, Robert De Niro starring, and support from Al Pacino and Joe Pesci, everyone thought they would win. It may have had all the major nominations. However, from them, it received a grand total of zero wins. Moreover, Pesci was unlucky that this was Brad Pitt’s year while The Irishman might’ve also had hopes Best Editing, Adapted Screenplay, and above all Best Visual Effects. Whether it’s the movie’s 3.5-hour runtime that put voters or still some lack of desire to reward the streaming service, The Irishman was completely shut out at the 92nd Academy Awards.
Oscars sidelined Netflix
The streaming service with big cinematic dreams had two Best Picture nominees and another (“The Two Popes”) with several nominations. And yet the Academy still refuses to give it much love. With 24 nods, it won just two, for Laura Dern and Best Documentary (“American Factory”).
The Academy is Too Generous With Toy Story
The Best Animated Feature win was perhaps the most undeserving win of the night. ‘I lost my body’ and ‘Klaus’ were good contenders. But the Oscars just had to muck it all up.
