The new Netflix comedy series, The Expanding Universe of Ashley Garcia is about a 15-year-old genius Ashley Garcia, who moves to California to follow her dreams. Her genius is on another level. I mean, she holds a Ph.D. and is a robotics engineer as well as a rocket scientist. The expanding universe of Ashley Garcia will have sixteen episodes and is coming to Netflix on February 17, 2020.
The storyline of the Netflix series
Ashley Garcia, played by Paulina Chávez, was already in college at the age of nine. After she was done with her Ph.D. she gets her dream job to make robots for NASA. But, she has to leave her home for that. Therefore, she is sent to her Uncle Victor (Jencarlos Canela) who lives in California. He is an irresponsible football coach in a high school and was previously a football player.
During her intensive educational journey, she left out on many beautiful experiences of teen-age. Obviously, now that she is in a new city with a new job and new faces, her life will turn around. She’ll make new friends and will have a crush or two as well. Judging by her Uncle’s behavior, she’ll probably be the one looking after him in The Expanding Universe of Ashley Garcia.
The Expanding Universe of Ashley Garcia | A Latinx story
Finally, fans are excited about the addition of another Latinx show on Netflix. Not only does it show diversity and inclusion in the industry but it’s also solace. For those who were angry about the cancellation of a Latinx series “One day at a time”. As for the creators of the series, Mario Lopez and Seth Kurland joined forces. The famous Latina Eva Longoria has also directed some episodes. Other members of the cast include Bella Podaras, Conor Husting, and Reed Horstmann. Mario Lopez said in a statement:
I am excited for the opportunity to partner with Netflix to tell a universal, family-friendly story with a Latin flavor.
