Broom Standing Up is Real but Gravitational Pull Has No Part In It
The #BroomChallenge is not entirely a hoax. It has some truth to it.
Broom standing up on its own is real but not because of the reasons you might be thinking and no, Harry Potter or Hermione Granger are not involved. The #BroomChallenge has taken social media by storm lately and is one of the most searched topics on Google right now. According to the challenge, any broom would balance on its bristols on February 10th, 2020 because of Earth’s gravitational pull that day. That part, however, is not true and here is the reason why.
Is ‘Broom Standing Up’ on its own a Reality or a Hoax?
If it were because of the gravitational pull, every object would have experienced the same phenomena and not just a broom. That is not true. Now that we have it out of the way, let’s discuss the reality behind a broom standing up by itself.
The mere thought of an everyday household object like a broomstick defying the laws of gravity sounds amazing and straight out of a Harry Potter movie. It’s not how it looks though and a broom standing up on its own is basic physics. Don’t believe everything you see on the internet.
Most of the pictures and videos of a broom standing up are either CGI or a flat-bottom broomstick with a low center of gravity. Yes, it’s that simple. A real-world example is a comparison between a water-filled mattress and a normal flat mattress. Which one do you think is more stable? A normal flat one would be the likely choice because it’s more stable and easier to sleep or sit on.
Similarly, a broomstick with flat brushes and low center of gravity would balance any time of any day. It has nothing to do with gravitational pull on a particular day. Meteorologist Ahmad Bajjay breaks down the science behind it.
Hence, the broom standing up by itself is actually true but not for the reasons #BroomChallenge is mostly famous for. Let us know what you think about it. Dankanator will keep you updated on more interesting subjects.
