Natalie Portman’s Oscars 2020 dress is making headlines right now. The Black Swan (2010) star’s black Dior cape had the names of forgotten female directors written all over it and It’s not the first time Thor: The Dark World (2013) actress has highlighted the topic. The Academy Award-winning actress called attention to this during the Golden Globes 2018 as well.

Brad Pitt(OUATIH), Joaquin Pheonix(Joker), Renee Zellweger, and Parasite movie stole the Oscars 2020. Natalie Portman, however, also became the center of attention as she flaunts her gorgeous Dior cape at the star-studded event. So what’s so special about the dress? Well, It had names of some forgotten female directors of Hollywood embroidered all over it.
The 92nd Academy Awards had female nominations and winners in various other categories but as far as Hollywood’s female directors are concerned, there weren’t any. V for Vendetta actress did not forget about them though and made a bold statement by making those left out names part of her Oscars 2020 attire.
So who are these forgotten female directors? Natalie Portman’s dress flaunted the names of Lorene Scafaria (Hustler), Lulu Wang (The Farewell), Greta Gerwig (Little Women), Marielle Heller (A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood), Melina Matsoukas (Queen & Slim), Alma Har’el (Honey Boy), Céline Sciamma (Portrait of a Lady on Fire) and Mati Diop (Atlantics).
It is not the first time Natalie Portman has tried bringing attention to this issue. Golden Globes 2018 saw her highlighting this subject as well. No, It was not a dress, Natalie Portman said it and introduced the best directors nominees in a rather sarcastic fashion.

The Oscars 2020(92nd Academy Awards) are also under fire for not nominating any artist of color in the leading categories, such best actor and actress categories. Harriet movie‘s Cynthia Erivo is the only famous black actor nominated.
