The Impact Marvel Productions Have On Hollywood
It was not long before Martin Scorsese was criticizing Marvel Productions and the studio. According to him, Kevin Feige and the studio are changing the way how movies are made nowadays. Without stirring up news of the past, let us think and ponder if what the director said makes any sense. Looking at the numbers, the 22 films MCU produced generated revenue of an estimated $ 20 billion, which is bigger than any franchise in Hollywood. But this was not a money-squeezing move, the movies were quite remarkable. Rotten Tomatoes hold an average rating of 84%, which is higher than any other franchise near its ranks. Avengers: Endgame alone crossed a record billion-dollar mark, dethroning Avatar after a decade.
Marvel Is Creating A Big Mark On Hollywood
There are different factors that we must discuss and perhaps the strongest one is its timing. When Marvel released its first movie, Iron Man, back in 2008 we were already accustomed with superhero movies. We had seen Batman trilogy, Blade and even Spiderman trilogy and X-Men. There were terrible ones as well, like Fantastic Four and Daredevil show. Iron Man was just another Marvel Productions movie we could watch.
There was something about the casting of the movies as well. Think about Robert Downey Jr, Scarlett Johansson, Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, and Mark Ruffalo coming together. Think about the ones that we are getting now in the next phase. It is a star-studded lineup indeed and this was the same case back in 2008 as well.
Marvel Productions also focussed on a bigger picture, something which we could never imagine. Kevin Feige gave us staggering 22 movies to create a whole storyline, only to bring it to an end with Avengers: Endgame. There was humour, excitement, adventure and thrill and action. This itself is a testament to what Kevin Feige wanted to achieve in Hollywood. The fact that Marvels work on each hero individually while also connecting them with others to create a master plot makes the plot better than any DC movie or any other movie franchise. For a simple-eyed, this is a jumbled up wiring, but for those who start from the beginning know how to reach the finish line.
Kevin Feige Created A Work Of Art
“I’ve always believed in expanding the definition of what a Marvel Studios movie could be. We try to keep audiences coming back in greater numbers by doing the unexpected and not simply following a pattern or a mold or a formula.”
So far, the MCU is still looking strong and doesn’t seem to have a problem. Even after 22 movies, the studio is still able to renew the notion of what a Marvel movie can be. This gets even better when we look at what Jon Favreau, who directed Iron Man once said: “It’s very difficult to keep these franchises from running out of gas after two movies.” Next, even Pixar’s CEO Ed Catmull calls sequels as “creative bankruptcy”.
Marvel Studios with Kevin Feige leading is turning the way how Hollywood looks at superhero movies. They will continue to find critics along their path. However, that is a path of success, no doubt.
