Dr Luke Gets His Win Against Kesha Over Defamation Case
Things are not looking well for Kesha and her future as a New York judge passed a ruling against her. For years, she and Dr Luke were battling in a defamation case which has finally come to a terrible end for the TiK ToK singer. According to the court, Kesha defamed Lukasz Gottwald, aka Dr Luke, when she claimed in a text message to Lady Gaga that he sexually abused Katy Perry.
Kesha Ordered To Pay $374,000 To Dr Luke
On Friday, February 7, New York judge Jennifer G Schechter, in a ruling over the issue of defamation and breach-of-contract, said;
“Perry unequivocally testified that Gottwald did not [rape her]. In response, Kesha has not raised a triable issue. There is no evidence whatsoever that Gottwald raped Katy Perry. Or that Katy Perry, whose sworn testimony is unrefuted, must not be believed.”
In addition to that, Kesha also has to pay Dr Luke’s company $374,000 related to late royalty fees. It was back in 2014 when Kesha placed rape allegations on Dr Luke. After denying the allegations, obviously, Gottwald then sued the singer in countersuit over defamation and breach-of-contract. The court dismissed Kesha’s case, and now this countersuit will close as well.
Interestingly, Judge Schechter did say that the previous case did not provide any definitive answer on whether Dr Luke had sexually abused Kesha or not. This, according to the judge, the jury will confirm in a separate trial. It was in the previous case where Kesha’s lawyer claimed that Gottwald “sexually, physically, verbally, and emotionally abused” her. In fact, this was to the point where she “nearly lost her life”. Her lawyers claimed two incidents where Dr Luke tried to drug and rape her.
Now, as Dr Luke’s lawyer, Christine Lepera, prepares for the next case, she looks to clear every bit of her client’s name from rape allegations. Speaking at the defamation case hearing, the lawyer said:
“Dr Luke looks forward to the trial of his case where he will prove that Kesha’s other false statements about him were equally false and defamatory.”
