Predictions For Best Original Score
Some of the acting categories at the Oscars this year have seemed fairly easy to predict. With Joker making a complete sweep and dominating every category, we know who’s gonna take more than one Oscar home. However, the music-related categories seem more competitive.
The 15 eligible scores for this honor all contributed to a tough choice. However, top 5 were selected to compete for the win. It is very likely that the frontrunner and recent Golden Globe winner, Hildur Guðnadóttir, will end up taking the Oscar home too.
The Oscars, somewhat controversially, love to award more experimental, low-key scores. So there’s every chance that Guðnadóttir stands a strong chance of being awarded. She’s only the second woman to have scored a theatrically released comic book movie (Captain Marvel’s Pinar Toprak was the first), so even a nomination, let alone a win, is historic.
And now, on to the second frontrunner. This is Thomas Newman’s 15th nomination for an award that he’s never won. And while it would be wonderful to see him with an Oscar in his hands one day, this isn’t the work that best showcases his talent. But, on the bright side, another loss might spare Thomas and his cousin Randy any awkwardness at the next Newman family reunion.
