The Flash Star Suggests New Name for Arrowverse
In the wake of Arrow's End! ... Do you like the sound of it?
The CW recently aired the series finale of Arrow. Yes, the series that basically spawned the Arrowverse, has ended after running for over 7 years. While it may take us time to accept that, it looks like The Flash star Danielle Panabaker is ready to move on! She suggested “Flashverse” as the new name of the Shared DCTV Universe. The following details might contain major spoilers concerning the epic “Crisis on Infinite Earths” crossover.
Arrowverse: How did it Begin?
In 2012 when Superhero TV shows weren’t as popular as they are today, Arrow was launched. The series revolved around Oliver Queen, a spoiled billionaire brat turned vigilante, who returned to his city after being stranded on an island for 5 years with a goal to battle those who had “failed his city”. The series garnered widespread recognition in no time.
The success of Arrow motivated CW to add more DC characters and shows and establish a shared universe of superheroes. This universe is what many of us know today as the “Arrowverse”. Arrow, The Flash, Legends of Tomorrow, Supergirl etc. are some of the longest-running shows of the said universe.
The Impact of Crisis on Infinite Earths on Arrowverse!
It was announced last year that the 8th season of Arrow would be it’s final. Enter Crisis on Infinite Earths, a crossover so big that it could have been a movie! During this epic crossover, some shocking changes were made to the Arrowverse. For starters, all the Earths were merged into one. Then, Oliver Queen ended up losing his life.
So, with Arrow in the rear mirror, should the Arrowverse get a new name?
Danielle Panabaker’s Interesting Take on the State of Arrowverse!
During an interview with the TV Guide, Danielle Panabaker suggested a fun name change. Panabaker has been portraying Caitlin Snow and her alter-ego Killer Frost on The Flash since 2014. She lightheartedly suggested “Flashverse” as the new identity of the shared universe.
The Legacy of Arrow!
Arrow has undoubtedly reached legendary status. Even Grant Gustin, who plays the titular role in The Flash, admitted that he has no intention of assuming the leadership role in the Arrowverse. It’s safe to say that the void left by Stephen Amell’s departure will not be filled anytime soon.
Chyler Leigh (Alex Danvers) responded to Panabaker’s statement by saying that Arrowverse will always remain the name of their universe.
Even though Arrow has concluded, the Arrowverse will only get bigger with time. Expect “Green Arrow and the Canaries” to be greenlit soon. This spin-off will be centered on Mia, Oliver’s daughter and the Green Arrow in 2040. Stargirl, along with Superman and Lois are also on the horizon. Arrow’s departure will be a hard pill to swallow, but the universe it has spawned will continue to prosper!
