Jim Carrey Reveals If he’d ever do The Mask Sequel
Is there anyone out there from the 90s who has not watched The Mask? No. Because it is not possible. Jim Carrey stole the hearts of the entire world, with the ridiculous way that he, and only he, can act. He played the role of Stanley Ipkiss, a bank clerk, who comes across a mysterious mask that turns him into a superhero. Without the mask, he is too nice and is a pushover. But as soon as he dons the mask, he becomes charming and confident. This leads him to get with a beautiful local nightclub singer Tina Carlyle (Cameron Diaz). However, he kind of robs a bank, which gets him in trouble with crime lord Dorian Tyrell.
This role was what got him his Golden Globe nomination, and he was instantly approached to return for a sequel. But Jim Carrey had already decided after filming “Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls”, that he will not do any sequels in the future. So, he rejected the offer of $10 million for a second film. Since then he has rarely ever done a sequel. The Mask earned $351 million against a budget of $23 million and was nominated for several awards. They made a sequel of the movie in 2005 without Jim, and without him, it didn’t perform well.
Jim Carrey Is Kind of Interested in Sequels Now
In his recent movie, Sonic the Hedgehog, he will play the role of the antagonist Dr. Ivo Robotnik/Dr. Eggman. The movie will hit the cinemas on February 14, 2020. When he was asked if he’ll be interested in appearing in the sequel of Sonic The Hedgehog, he said:
I don’t think in terms of sequels and stuff like that, I mean, this one is kind of right for it because we have not evolved the character [Dr. Eggman] fully yet.
Whereas, he surprised everyone with a comment on the possibility of a sequel of The Mask.
The Mask I think, myself, you know, it would depend on a filmmaker. It depends on a filmmaker really. I don’t want to do it just to do it. But I would only do it if it was some crazy visionary filmmaker. Sure.
A look at Dr. Robotnik
With the hopes of The Mask II, we can kill the time by looking at the image uploaded by the director of the film. We can see Jim Carrey in his attire of Dr. Robotnik’s and his sick ride.
