Carrie Fisher Starring in Star Wars: Episode IX
Star Wars: Episode IX will start filming soon under the direction of J.J Abrams. The official Star Wars website has announced the cast for it. And surprisingly, it will have an appearance by Carrie Fisher.
Fisher’s Unexpected Death
The Princess Leia star died in 2016 very suddenly. But she’ll make an appearance in the upcoming Star Wars film. It will be done using some unseen footage which was recorded originally for Star Wars: The Force Awakens. In a statement, J.J Abrams admitted that they did not want to conclude the Skywalker saga without Carrie Fisher. They did not wish to use a computer-generated character and definitely did not want to consider recasting. So together with the help of late star’s daughter Billie, they can honor Carrie Fisher’s legacy in Episode IX. He then mentioned the unseen footage from Episode VII that will be used.
Princess Leia Role Forever Loved
Carrie Fisher was more than just loved for her role as Princess Leia in the Star War movies. And sadly, Star Wars: The Last Jedi was her final appearance in the movie. Fisher died in December 2016 out of a heart attack, but by that time she was done filming for Episode VIII. When the movie ends, and the credits roll, the team for Star Wars dedicates the movie to the late star. It said that,
In loving memory of our princess, Carrie Fisher.
Undoubtedly, this had to be done. Everyone was saddened by the death of Carrie Fisher. She truly perfected the Star War movies and nobody could ever replace the precious Princess Leia.
They Couldn’t Have Replaced Fisher
Rumors started flying after her death that her role in The Last Jedi might be replaced. That was in order to account for her absence in Episode IX. But at that time, director Rian Johnson said that there was no need to alter her performance in the movie. He admitted that her scenes always had emotional resonance and meaning. All of it was just more intensified after she left.
Later, Disney claimed that they had to deal with this tragedy of Fisher’s death. But they did not want to have a digital character or change any movies that they had already filmed with Carrie Fisher. The Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy even added that they do not intend to make re-creating lost actors a trend.
Ever since all this came out, fans were worried if Episode IX would do justice to Carrie Fisher. Since Princess Leia’s storyline was left open, there could be various ways for the new director to try out. And J.J Abrams has surely got it figured out.
Rest of the Star Wars: Episode IX Cast
Other than Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill, Anthony Daniels, and Billy Dee Williams will also return to the cast. For Episode IX, Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Lupita Nyong’o, Domhnall Gleeson, Kelly Marie Tran, Joonas Suotamo, and Billie Lourd will also be joining. Keri Russell who was attending the talks for the movie is not on the cast list. But maybe, we are going to have a few surprises there too.
