The streaming hub, Facebook Watch canceled two of its original scripted shows, Limetown and Sorry For Your Loss. These shows were available for exclusive streaming on Facebook Watch site.

The series, Limetown was about a journalist (Jessica Biel) who reported hundreds of people’s disappearance at a neuroscience research facility. Facebook gave the greenlight for the show for one season and decided not to renew it for a second season. The show had very high viewers’ ratings even with average critical reviews.

Similarly, Sorry For Your Loss went through the same state. With a power-packed performance by Elizabeth Olsen, the series gained major acclaim by the audience the critics likewise. The series followed a young widow’s struggle to cope with the unexpected death of her husband.

The Reason for Cancellation Despite Critical Acclaim

According to Deadline‘s report, Sorry For Your Loss, starring Elizabeth Olsen, will not return for a third season while Limetown led by Jessica Biel is dismissed just after one season. Furthermore, Facebook scaled down its scripted series in favor of unscripted series for the future to reduce cost. However, some scripted show plans are still under development.

Shelley Venus, Video Lead  at Facebook gave her statement:

“We’re partnering with these organizations to build sustainable video businesses, where Facebook can be one part of their overall strategy.”

Facebook may be leaving its scripted business entirely unless the right projects are secured, as the company has had more success and better traction with its users with unscripted content.

Facebook Watch made its decision due to immense viewership gained by its shows such as the Daytime Emmy-nominated Red Table Talk with Jada Pinkett Smith and Returning the Favor with Mike Rowe.
