Who doesn’t love Modern Family? With a cast like Sophia Vergara and Jesse Tyler Ferguson, it is a show to have you sit for hours without getting bored. However, surprise surprise, in last Wednesday’s episode, we got quite the shocker. With fans already preparing themselves to say Goodbye to the show as season 11 is to be the last, they had to say another goodbye in last week’s episode. Modern Family just lost a beloved character. Okay, so this article may be full of spoilers for the season 11, episode 11 of The Modern Family. It was a sad day for Phil Dunphy (Ty Burrell) as he lost his father, Frank (Fred Willard).

Although come to think of it, you have probably got the gist of it by now anyway. We lost a dear character from the Dunphy family.

How The Character of Frank (Fred Willard) passed away on Modern Family

Without so much as a warning, the show’s episode ‘Legacy’ started off by Phil receiving previously undisclosed information about his dad, Frank. Phil rushes to his dad to inquire about the news but finds out it isn’t true. They end up spending a good time together for the day as Phil decides to spend it with his father. The Modern Family star had quite a day.

For Phil, it was not even in his mind that the day could be their last time together. He asked his dad if he wished he had another kid to take over the business. To which he responded with utter support to his son:

The answer is no Phil. Never. Because you did take over the family business, didn’t you? Keeping life light, making it fun for everybody.

Such an adorable father-son moment.

Frank passed away off the screen of Modern Family and many fans were left in shock and tears. So, they took to Twitter to express their emotions.
