Tina Fey and Amy Poehler Will Return To Host Golden Globes 2021
Looks like Tina Fey and Amy Poehler are all set to return to Golden Globes as hosts in the next year’s edition. The news comes directly from Poehler herself who made a surprise appearance at NCB Universal’s Television Critics Association press event. Perhaps this year’s somewhat cold hosting has led to the management shaking things and bringing back names that actually made an impact. If this happens, then this will be the fourth time the duo will appear as hosts on the award show. They previously hosted the event in hattrick of 2013, 2014, and 2015.
Tina Fey and Amy Poehler Return to Golden Globes
Paul Telegdy, chairman NBC Entertainment said:
“NBC has long been the home to two of the funniest people on the planet — Tina Fey and Amy Poehler. And we didn’t want to wait any longer to share the great news that they’ll be hosting the Globes once again.”
President of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA), Lorenzo Soria said that Poehler and Amy have infectious comedic chemistry. According to The Hollywood Reporter, this might be taken as a coup for producer Dick Clark Productions, NBC and HFPA at a time when major award shows are struggling to find hosts. For example, Oscars is going hostless for a second time a year. Although insiders claim that they liked the response of going hostless last year. Perhaps there is another angle to this?
On the other hand, perhaps Golden Globes want to make a comeback as they want to recover from this year’s hosting disaster at the hands of Ricky Gervais. Apparently, this year’s awards had the lowest viewership in the last eight years. Now, the Globes have turned to Poehler and Fey to bring up the ratings.
Tina Fey and Amy Poehler started their relationship with NBC by starring in Saturday Night Live. Fey then went on to create 30 Rock and produced Kimmy Schmidt. Meanwhile, Poehler starred in Parks and Recreation and became an executive producer for NBC’s Making It.
