Edd Byrnes, the actor from ’77 Sunset Strip’ and ‘Grease’ passed away on 8th January 2020. He was a beloved man of Hollywood, as can be seen with the tweets that came out in praise of him, including one from Bill Burr. The sad news came from Edd’s son Logan Byrnes in the form of a tweet:

“It is with profound sadness and grief that I share with you the passing of my father Edd Byrnes. He was an amazing man and one of my best friends”

Burr calls Byrnes a Legend

Bill Burr, a popular stand-up comedian paid his respects to the late actor on Twitter, by deeming him a legend:

Moreover, Bill Burr thanked the channel ‘MeTV’ (Memorable Television) for airing Sunset Strips 6 seasons. The show was really famous back in the day. It premiered in 1958 and focused on two detectives, Stu Bailey (Efrem Zimbalist Jr. )and Jeff Spencer (Roger Smith). There was another favorite member of the show, Kookie whom Edd Byrnes played.

The charm of Kookie

Kookie was actually a valet that worked in a restaurant that was right alongside the detectives’ office. The show is named after the location, 77 sunset strip!

Edd Byrnes’ Kookie was actually a helpful asset to Stu and Jeff who used his information to solve crimes. Eventually, Kookie became a full-on detective in the agency!

I wasn’t from this era but seeing old clips of Kookie tells me that Edd Byrnes was a heartthrob among women. From the way he talks to the way he combs his hair, Kookie is all about charm.

The popularity was so much so that there was even one song made, ‘Kookie, Kookie, Lend me Your Comb’! No, I’m not kidding. Witness it for yourself:

The popularity led to the actor getting about 15 thousand fan letters a week.

It’s no wonder brilliant comedians like Bill Burr deem him as a genius. His effortless comedy and innate charm would bring about anyone to watch the show.
