Demi Lovato in Hospital After Drug Overdose: Do Pop-stars Need a Break?
Popular singer Demi Lovato was rushed to a Los Angeles hospital in an emergency on Tuesday afternoon. Apparently, it was a drug overdose for which she had to be admitted urgently.
According to reports, the pop star is now awake and in a stable condition. In a statement released to the media, her representative said that,
Demi is awake and with her family who want to express thanks to everyone for the love, prayers, and support. Some of the information being reported is incorrect and they respectfully ask for privacy and not speculation as her health and recovery is the most important thing right now.
Demi Lovato’s difficult journey with substance abuse
Demi Lovato has been pretty open about her substance abuse in the past few years. In late 2010 she retracted from a concert tour with Jonas Brothers and went into rehab. After completing her treatment, she shared that she had been addicted to cocaine and alcohol. She was even diagnosed with an eating disorder and labeled bipolar.
During spring this year, Demi Lovato was getting back to her old lifestyle of struggling with substance. She interacted with an audience in Brooklyn telling them that,
I was drinking vodka out of a Sprite bottle at nine in the morning, throwing up in the car and I just remember thinking, ‘This is no longer cute. This is no longer fun. And I’m just like my dad.’ So I made changes in my life.

Demi Lovato Releases Album ‘Sober’
But sadly, that did not work for her. In June this year, Demi Lovato released her album titled ‘Sober’. She announced that she had finally relapsed after six years of sobriety. Her lyrics told the story for her,
Momma I’m so sorry I’m not sober anymore / And Daddy please forgive me for the drinks spilled on the floor / To the ones who never left me, we’ve been down this road before / I’m so sorry, I’m not sober.
In her new album, she even apologized to her fans for not being their role model. She sang that,
I’m sorry for the fans I lost, who watched me fall again / I wanna be a role model, but I’m only human/ I’m sorry that I’m here again / I promise I’ll get help / It wasn’t my intention / I’m sorry to myself.
Demi Lovato was scheduled to perform in Atlantic City this Thursday. And then later, she was to travel to Latin America for the final leg of her 52-date tour. But sadly, Lovato had to visit the hospital before she could do all of this. Fans are heartbroken and sending out their prayers and wish to the singer.
Stress in a pop star’s life
We all know pop stars have gone down a path where they don’t seem to be in control of their lives anymore. It might be their personal mental health problems that they have to deal with but when you’re a global pop star, people might expect too much out of you. The pressure and stress are enough to take a toll on anyone’s mind. With Demi Lovato, it’s always going to be out in the public. But one thing many can find commendable is her ability to be open about her struggles and not hide anything with her fans. That adds a layer to her authenticity and music. She creates real music that doesn’t sugarcoat anything.
So, we can now only hope that she recovers soon enough to lead the positive life she wants and deserves.
