13th Doctor is Jodie Whittaker in Doctor Who
Another season of Doctor Who is on the way. Not only does that bring more excitement for upcoming adventures but also the debut of a brand new doctor. Season 11 is coming, and it’s more important for all the different reasons.
This time Jodie Whittaker from ‘Broadchurch’ will join the cast as the 13th doctor. Doctor Who has been on television for 54 years, and Jodie Whittaker will be the first woman to play a doctor here. When the show begins in Fall 2018, Chris Chibnall will also replace Steven Moffat who pens the script till now.
Ever since we got to know that Whittaker is joining the cast as the first female doctor, fans are desperate. We are attempting to know any possible thing about the new Time Lord to handle the world-saving duties this time. The trailer for season 11 of Doctor Who is out. And by the looks of it, something really thrilling is up. It begins with a shot of Jodie Whittaker as she regenerates from Peter Capaldi’s body. Then she says,
All of this is new to me. New faces, new worlds. New times. So if I asked really, really nicely, would you be my new best friends?
Along the trailer, you can then spot Whittaker standing with her companions Yasmin, Ryan, and Graham who are played by Mandip Gill, Tosin Cole, and Bradley Walsh respectively. Though they haven’t specified the role, but Sharon D. Stone is also set to make an appearance. Show runner Chris Chibnall is very excited to have this time on board with him. In a statement, he declared that,
The new Doctor is going to need new friends. We’re thrilled to welcome Mandip, Tosin and Bradley to the Doctor Who family. They’re three of Britain’s brightest talents and we can’t wait to see them dive into brand new adventures with Jodie’s Doctor. Alongside them, we’re delighted that Sharon D Clarke is also joining the show.
This time the series will have reduced 10 episodes. But they will at 50 minutes each. The trailed did not give out an exact date of when the show will premiere, but we do know that it will be this year in Fall.
Everyone is super excited to see Jodie Whittaker’s take on the character of the 13th doctor. About the first scene of the actress in her role, ex show producer Steven Moffat himself had a few comments. He shared that,
In such a tiny moment, she’s given us the Doctor we’ve always known, but in, to say the least, a new way. We are in for a very exciting run.
Now that Chris Chibnall has taken over the show, he too has shared a description of Whittaker’s incarnation. In an interview with Radio Times, he told that,
She’s absolutely the Doctor. But there’s a new calibration, a new mixture of Doctorishness. The Thirteenth Doctor is incredibly lively, warm, funny, energetic, inclusive – she’s the greatest friend you could wish to have as your guide around the universe.
Costars are also quick to notice that Jodie Whittaker has very similar energy to previous incarnations. Her companion Mandip Gill shared that,
She has a similar energy to Matt Smith’s Doctor. Very high energy. Jodie has that about her Doctor.
Jodie Whittaker is also very enthusiastic for her role in the series. It would be interesting to see this show led by a female perspective. We saw that in the successful Ocean’s Eleven reboot and not so successful Ghostbusters reboot. Let’s see if people will love this in Doctor Who. It’s no doubt that the prevalent feminist ideologies are influencing everything we see on the screens now. This is bound to change the narrative in a major way.
Let’s all patiently wait for BBC to announce a release date now and see what the 13th doctor has in store for us!
