Jeff Bezos becomes richest man
Founder of Amazon.com, Jeff Bezos is now the richest person in modern history. His net worth exceeded Bill Gates’ by $56 billion. Previously, the founder of Microsoft Bill Gates was the richest man with a total worth of $95.3 before being adjusted to inflation. And now Jeff Bezos has topped it by having a total net worth of $151 billion. According to the Forbes inaugural wealth ranking, Jeff Bezos is the richest person to exist since 1982. Following Jeff Bezos and Bill Gates, the three next top richest people include CEO’s of Warren Buffett, Facebook, and Inditex. This makes Berkshire Hathaway, Mark Zuckerberg, and Amancio Ortega join the line.
Jeff Bezos founded Amazon about almost 2 decades ago. It launched as an online bookseller but then grew to became one of the world’s most popular retail stores. It operates in more than a dozen countries selling everything from groceries to digital devices. Amazon started as a start-up and Jeff Bezos himself said,
I took the less safe path to follow my passion and I’m proud of that choice.
Jeff Bezos topped the $150 billion mark for the first time on a very important day. His company inaugurated the Amazon Prime Day- an annual globing shopping event. Amazon shares have continually increased since the past few days. They are hitting new heights by gaining 1.2% to $1,843.93 last week. More than $50 billion has been added to Jeff’s worth just because stock rates increased by 57%. That too in just the last seven months. This addition exceeds the total fortune of Jack Ma, Chairman of Alibaba Group Holding Ltd who is also the richest man in Asia.
However, the wealth of Jeff Bezos differs strikingly from the typical employee payouts at Amazon. According to reports in 2017, the median annual compensation for Amazon employees was $28,466. During the Prime Day’s sale, Amazon employees in Spain and Germany even went on strike. They called out for better pays and working conditions. But Amazon has denied these claims saying that it is a fair and responsible employer. The company was also asserted that it is committed to dialogue with workers.
According to estimates, Jeff Bezos might not just be the richest man today. But in fact, he might just be the richest man ever.
