Maisie Williams, who played the role of Arya Stark in Game of Thrones is nowadays working towards a great cause. The actress has been raising her voice against water inequality in the UK. She took part in an international campaign by WaterAid UK where she highlighted the need for clean, accessible water.

WaterAid UK

WaterAid UK started in the United Kingdom in 1981. It is a non-governmental, international campaign that works on issues regarding water, hygiene, and sanitation. And that’s why Maisie Williams is in awe of them.

On December 10th, the NGO launched a campaign titled ‘A Decade For Change’ marking Human Rights Day. WaterAid is urging people across the world to raise their voices and demand clean water for all.

WaterAid UK made a short film for the campaign that is a part of another campaign called Access Denied. Through that, WaterAid is aiming to raise £2 million to alleviate the problems of the poorest communities. The charity will work to provide them clean water, toilets, and sanitation, hence; improved hygiene.

Maisie Williams lends her voice to the campaign

In the campaign video, the Game of Thrones star highlights the lack of hygienic water that causes problems for millions of people.

I picked up my voice at a young age and I want to use it.

In the video Williams also says:

Over the past decade, it’s been inspiring to see people unite around the world to fight injustices; now it’s time to challenge global water inequality.

She also shared some facts about water inequality that had shocked her too.

I was appalled to learn that, in 2019, nearly 800 million people around the world are denied access to clean water and a staggering two billion have no decent toilet.

The campaign was a part of Human Rights Day to mark the significance of water as a primary human right. Maisie Williams also added,

And Human Rights Day seems a good time to rally the troops, as this year marks a decade since access to water and sanitation was acknowledged as a human right.

Williams is not only playing unforgettable characters like Arya Stark, she is also trying to serve humanity. We know this girl will go places.
