Season 3 of the show Anne With An E will be it’s last as Netflix confirms. The drama is based on the novel Anne of Green Gables by Lucy M. Montgomery. This now makes it next in line as Netflix continues its trend of taking down shows after two or three seasons.
The story is about a young Anne Shirley-Cuthbert (Amybeth McNulty) who explores themes of identity, feminism, and bullying. The 14-year old glittery-eyed, and brave teenager is an orphan girl living in the late 19th century, on Prince Edward Island. She discovers prejudice and gender parity as she goes along in her life. Lucas Jade Zumann stars as Gilbert and Geraldine James plays Marilla Cuthbert. This drama adaptation by CBC Television on Netflix is created by Moira Walley-Beckett.
Anne With An E Ends After Season 3
The series creator, Walley-Beckett, also confirmed this news after posting it on her Instagram:
“I wish it could be different but it cannot. We have reached the end of the red Green Gables road after 3 wonderful seasons. My heart is heavy but I am so proud of this show,”
She wrote as she posted a heartfelt message to fans and the audience. She thanked everyone from the cast and all those involved with the show before ending her note.
CBC and Netflix issued a joint statement where they broke the news. There is no reason provided in the statement, and there is a good chance we might never get to find out. CBC had first-run rights to the show, airing AWAE a few months before Netflix. However, the streaming service had rights to the show everywhere outside Canada.
After the end of Anne With an E Season 3, the show will fall in the list of yet another TV show that will end after a few seasons. Those that are already in the list include One Day At A Time and the OA. Both of these show ended after three seasons. The audience for Trinkets is still waiting for the release of the second season, which will be it’s last. Meanwhile, Tuca and Bertie did not even make it past season 1.
