Rebel Wilson Producing a Hollywood Film on Kpop
There’s an entire debate on whether kpop became too westernized. We don’t know id it is but we sure know is that it is about to be. Actress and comedian, Rebel Wilson, has decided to produce a Hollywood film based on kpop.
Rebel Wilson to Produce and Write New Kpop Movie, Seoul Girls
It was confirmed by Deadline that Rebel Wilson is writing and co-producing a film called Seoul Girls about a Korean-American and her friends competing to be the opening act for the most popular K-pop boy group. Also, reportedly, the rights for the film have been obtained by Lionsgate.
Do we Really Need a Kpop Movie?
It won’t be wrong to say that kpop has officially taken over the world. Artists like BTS and Blackpink are having sold-out tours across America and are even more successful than American artists on Billboards.
Today, it is hard to avoid kpop but do we really need a film on it? Yes and no. Kpop as an industry has many flaws and if Rebel Wilson’s new movie will touch upon those flaws, we say give it a go. But if it’s only going to be a dance number movie, we hope the project ends before it starts.
Also, there’s the case of who is going to be cast. Because as we all know, America is known for avoiding real ethnicities and whitewashing. And if this happens with the kpop film, we swear, we’ll riot.
Rebel Wilson, we have faith in you. Please don’t disappoint.
Rebel Wilson is especially known for her role as Fat Amy in the Pitch Perfect series, and she has also written and produced for projects including the ABC sitcom Super Fun Night.
