John Legend And Chrissy Teigen’s Relentless Support For Immigrant Families
John Legend and Chrissy Teigen came up with a brilliantly unique idea to celebrate President Trump’s birthday. But made sure that this celebration was a direct slap to the President’s cruel policies for immigrants. According to reports, the couple donated almost $300,000 to American Civil Liberties Union. Legend and Teigen donated $72,000 in the name of each member of their family to indicate their open protest against the inhumane policies of Donald Trump which have resulted in the separation of hundreds of immigrant families.
Why they Decided to Donate
Chrissy Teigen expressed her utter shock and disgust at the immigration policies of the US Administration on Twitter saying,
John and I are outraged to see and hear the horror stories of immigrant families seeking asylum and refuge in America being ripped apart due to the inhumane policies of the Trump administration. These actions are cruel, anti-family and go against everything we believe this country should represent.
Since both John Legend and Chrissy Teigen are outraged by the separation of more than 1300 children from their families, the couple decided to make this donation. They believe that this amount on behalf of them and their children will allow ACLU to fulfill its commitment. Which remains that the organization will defend the rights and humanity of vulnerable families.
The Couple Encouraged Others to Donate As Well
Chrissy Teigen announced their donations, and alongside wished President Trump his birthday. In other tweets, she encouraged other people to follow suit, and shared the link for ACLU’s donation website.
But well, President Trump has carefully selected people on his administration, who give him their blind support openly. Attorney general Jeff Sessions openly defended the policies of President Trump claiming that having children is not going to protect these families from prosecution. He also added that the inhumane policies are totally in accordance with the US Laws.
Most of Hollywood Still Against Trump
Comments and remarks exactly like these are the reason that more and more celebrities are rising to protest against the President. John Legend and Christine Teigen have expressed their support for the separated families at numerous times. Chrissy Teigen called out her followers to participate in events under the hashtag ‘FamiliesBelongTogether’.
