Kevin Feige of Marvel Defends His Films Against Martin Scorsese’s Op-Ed
Did you think that this Hollywood chapter was over? We thought so as well. Unfortunately, it is now time for Chief Creative Officer of Marvel Kevin Feige to defend his movies. A couple of weeks ago famous director Martin Scorsese expressed his negative opinion over Marvel movies. He said that these are not “cinema” movies, which led to a chain of reaction as fans and stars came out to defend the Avengers franchise.
Kevin Feige of Marvel Calls it ‘Unfortunate’
The news comes after The Hollywood Reporter interviewed Marvel boss, Kevin Feige. Recently Martin Scorsese shared his views on Marvel movies.
In an op-ed for The New York Times, Martin wrote:
“I said that I’ve tried to watch a few of them and that they’re not for me, that they seem to me to be closer to theme parks than they are to movies as I’ve known and loved them throughout my life, and that in the end, I don’t think they’re cinema.”
This gathered much of criticism from Marvel fans and stars. Martin actually had to come out and explain his stance, calling it a mere opinion because of his past experience. Perhaps because of this, Marvel’s Kevin Feige chose softer words to describe his reaction after reading up on Martin. He said:
“I think that’s not true. I think it’s unfortunate…”
He adjusted himself and explained:
“I think myself and everyone who works on these movies loves cinema, loves movies, loves going to the movies, loves to watch a communal experience in a movie theater full of people.”
Kevin continued to explain his stance, said that even his marvel movies have done some risky things, which Scorsese pointed lacking. He explained:
“We had our two most popular character into a very serious theological and physical altercation,” he says, referring to Captain America: Civil War, and, “We killed half our characters at the end of [Infinity War].”
What’s Up Next For Marvel?
According to DigitalSpy, Disney boss Bob Iger has revealed that there are more Marvel movies coming soon. The release dates of these movies have not yet been finalized. Black Widow is getting her own film, after an epic ending of Avengers Endgame which saw Iron Man and Captain America’s chapters coming to a close.
