Annapolis Shooting At Maryland Gazette
Unfortunate shooting at Capital Gazette, a newspaper in Annapolis, Maryland killed 5 people last Thursday. Even when the police is considering this as a targeted attack, investigations are still going on. A lot is still unknown about the shooting. But the police have taken a thirty-eight year old man named Jarrod W. Ramos in custody.
A gunman seemed to have blasted his way inside the newsroom at Capital Gazette during the afternoon. The entire room was taken by chaos at that very second. Some journalists hid under desks to plead for help on social media. Others tried to flee the room, describing it as a ‘war zone’. The victims of this unpleasant shooting include an editor, columnist, writer, community correspondent and a sales assistant. Other than these 5 who were killed, 2 other people were injured during the shooting at Capital Gazette.
The man taken into police custody Ramos is still scheduled for a bail hearing at the court. He seems to have grudges against Capital Gazette, and has previously launched a defamation lawsuit against it. Ramos has also been charged with murder five times, and does not even have a listed attorney. The odds definitely do not seem in his favor here. However, the police seems to think that this was a planned attack on Capital Gazette.
The Deputy Police Chief shared,
This was a targeted attack on the Capital Gazette. This person was prepared today to come in. He was prepared to shoot people.
The staff who was inside the newsroom when this tragic incident took place is under serious trauma and shock. One reporter gave his statement and expressed his terror saying,
I’m a police reporter. I write about this stuff — not necessarily to this extent, but shootings and death — all the time. But as much as I’m going to try to articulate how traumatizing it is to be hiding under your desk, you don’t know until you’re there and you feel helpless.
The police soon arrived at Capital Gazette, surrounding the shooter. Any delay in arrival by the authorities could have led to much more losses. The management at the newsroom was deeply saddened by this, and was preparing resources to accommodate their employees. The spokeswoman for the media group shared,
Our thoughts and prayers are with our colleagues and their families. Our immediate focus is on providing support and resources for all our employees and cooperating with the authorities as this situation is still under investigation.
Investigations are still under process to identify the real victim behind the shooting at Capital Gazette. We sincerely hope that the families of the deceased are able to forget this tragedy.
