Our British queen Phoebe Waller-Bridge has proved herself in the Primetime Emmy Awards 2019. She ended up winning plenty of awards for not only her acting but also her writing and the show itself. Fleabag won four awards! And the speeches Phoebe Waller-Bridge gave were nothing short of perfection, much like Fleabag itself.

Phoebe Waller-Bridge Wins Outstanding Writing for a Comedy Series

Excited and gleeful, Waller-Bridge walked up to the stage and gave a pretty iconic speech:

I find writing really hard and really painful

Of course, listening to something honest and deep is why we loved the writing on the show Fleabag. But that’s not at all.

The love we have for the comedy series is also because of her incredible wit:

But I’d like to say, honestly, from the bottom of my heart, the reason I do it is this [pointing to her Emmy award]

Waller-Bridge had really strong competition this year at the 71st Primetime Emmy Awards. She was up against Dead to Me’s Christina Applegate, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel’s Rachel Brosnahan, Veep’s Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Russian Doll’s Natasha Lyonne, and Schitt’s Creek’s Catherine O’Hara. Hence, it comes as no surprise when her face expressed complete shock. This was right after she won for Outstanding Writing for a Comedy Series.

Waller-Bridge uttered these words while grinning:

No, Oh my God. No! Thank You!

Then she took inspiration from her prior speech when she won for writing and stated:

I find acting really hard and really painful

This line sent everyone in the audience laughing as well as the actress herself!

Though, she continued:

But it’s all about this [pointing to Emmy award yet again]

But this was all in good fun. The actress and creator of Fleabag Phoebe Waller-Bridge proceeded to thank her cast members of the show as well as her agents. She even thanked the networks BBC and Amazon Prime.

Moreover, she even expressed gratitude to her fellow nominees

Thank you to be nominated with these unbelievable actresses who I have just looked up to and watched at/ with for so many years. Thank you so much. I mean in a good – nice- way. This means a huge amount to me.

Fleabag Wins For Outstanding Comedy Series

Phoebe Waller-Bridge humbly accepted the award and gave a really heartfelt speech thanking her Fleabag family including the show’s producers and cast. The actress even thanked her agents and her own family. Phoebe Waller-Bridge mentioned her sister who composed the music for the show. Moreover, the actress thanked the show’s editor for doing phenomenal editing.

The crux of her speech, however, was expressing gratitude to the actor Andrew Scott who played Hot Priest on the show.

This is about season 2. Season 2 would not have happened or exploded the way that it did if it wasn’t for Andrew Scott who came into our fleabag world like a whirlwind and gave a performance of such depth and complexity that just elevated the whole thing for all of us. So, thank you for trusting us and coming in and doing all that for us.

During the speech, she even asked the rest of the Fleabag cast and crew if they’d like to share a few words. One of the directors, Harry Bradbeer, took the moment to thank his wife and kid because he had forgotten to do it in his own speech when he won Directing for a Comedy Series.

Waller-Bridge ended the whole speech with a line that summed up everything:

Fleabag thanks you

Well, we thank Fleabag!
