0 569

Selena Gomez has joined the plethora of celebrities who are speaking up against the refugees issue. This comes as no surprise as the singer is one of those artists who use their platform to educate their fans.

Selena Gomez Speaks Her Mind About The Refugee Issue

On June 29th, the singer took to her instagram and wrote in a plea.

Kids in cages! Sleeping on concrete floors with aluminum blankets! No access to simple dignities! How is this still happening??? It’s absolutely inhumane to treat anyone like this let alone children. I can’t even imagine what they are going through. We need to get this to finally stop! Don’t stay silent on this human rights issue- please call your reps 202.224.3121#CloseTheCamps#FamilesBelongTogether

This is not the first time the singer has spoken out about a serious issue. Selena Gomez has also spoken up about abortion rights.

How The People Reacted

The reaction to Gomez’s post has been relatively positive but there are a few trolls too.

A fan wrote in support,

“A women with power that knows how to use it for better change is also called a queen. I stan.”

Though majority of comments on her post are positive, some actually object her choice of the picture she posted. A fan complaining about why she posted her own picture wrote,

“So maybe put a picture of them instead of your pretty face to show what’s actually happening. You’re privileged. They’re not.”

One even wrote,

“You are right, but this started with Obama and has been going on for years now and he did absolutely nothing to fix it! Where was the outrage then??!!”

We as fans of the singer feel very proud that she use her platform to speak up about the refugee issue. If you’re against the detention camps for children, speak out and make a change.
