I’m not big on science fiction, though I love Doctor Who but that’s mostly because of the actors who play the doctor. What I know of time travel is because of Doctor Who. But this particular British show isn’t that serious in its take on time travel. You know who’s serious, Dark. For those of you who don’t know what I’m talking about Dark is a German show which is a Netflix Original. And perhaps one of my favorite Netflix originals. Dark season 2 is already streaming on Netflix and I’m here to tell you all about it. But before that you need to know what Dark really is and what went down in season 1.
The Premises of Dark
Rest assured because this is not exactly a review or a recap. I’m only going to tell you the premise of the show and then you let you decide if the show is worth a watch or not. Which it is. It definitely is! But that’s just my opinion.
When you start Dark it seems like just another show that centers around the missing children. Been there, done that. We already have Stranger Things for that, so what makes Dark different?
Children had been disappearing from a small town called Winden where there are dense forests, hidden caves and a nuclear power plant. What began like a domestic drama about missing children soon turns out to be something more. It transforms into a show about time travel, its various perils, and the looming cloud of a pending apocalypse. Adding on to this is are the dysfunctional families and angsty teens. This doesn’t seems like an unnecessary plot line, rather it adds to the whole science fiction arc and makes its seem more captivating and intriguing.
Not a Spoiler Review of Dark Season 2
I promise I will give no spoilers. But what I’m going to tell you is that the second season of the German show is just as good as the first one. By the end of the first season we’ve established that there are three different timelines separated by 33 years. Now this number has a religious importance too and that’s not just me making up theories, because the show does take a religious cult direction. Let’s just say that there’s an evil priest and you’re going to be spooked.
Dark season 2 is streaming on Netflix. The creators of the show are Baran bo Odar and Jantje Friese. The cast includes Luis Hofmann, Oliver Masucci, Karoline Eichhorn, Jördis Triebel, Stephan Kampwirth, Moritz Jahn along with many others.
