The original ensemble of the Avengers 2012 movie consist of superheroes that have had their own solo movies, except for Hawkeye and Black Widow. Fans haven’t been pleased with this fact. Thus, they wished for a solo Black Widow movie for a long time. It’s natural since Natasha Romanoff (Scarlett Johansson) has become one of the most important and key members in the Avengers universe, especially when she survives Avengers: Infinity War. Here’s everything we know about the confirmed Black Widow prequel.

Post Avengers: Endgame

Sadly, when her soul was sacrificed for the Avengers to get the Soul Stone in the Avengers: Endgame, we were heartbroken. But, this Black Widow movie is actually a prequel just like Captain Marvel. The director of the movie is already confirmed as well, so it’s definitely happening. The movie has started production too.

What Is The Story About

Ever since we first saw Black Widow as the super-spy Natasha Romanoff in Iron Man 2 (2010), fans have been curious to know about her mysterious past. We know she was a Russian agent that suddenly became a member of S.H.I.E.L.D when recruited by Nick Fury. Though, we don’t know the details. It looks like our wishes are finally coming true. Well, most of them anyway. She’s still dead in the current present of the Avengers universe.

Although it is going to be focusing on her past, the makers of the movie have said that they were inspired from Better Call Saul. Better Call Saul is a prequel that came after Breaking Bad ended, and is one of the most critically acclaimed prequels in TV history.

At a time when the Black Widow movie was still not confirmed, Kevin Feige has this to say about the Black Widow prequel:

There’s always a method and doing things in an unexpected way is something we find fun. There are ways to do prequels that are less informative or answer questions you didn’t necessarily have, and then there are ways to do prequels where you learn all sorts of things you never knew before.

One interesting thing was revealed recently. Apparently, some pictures from the set were leaked and in it people noticed something that could be a major plot point. There were two sets of crates. The crates were labeled! One of the crates was labeled “Natasha”, while the other one was labeled “Yelena”.

Who is Yelena?

Comic book enthusiasts and hardcore Black Widow fans would recognize this name instantly. Yelena could possibly refer to a character in the comic book universe known as Yelena Belova. Yelena is also a Russian spy who starts working with Natasha even though they started off as enemies. What’s interesting about Yelena is that she is someone who has also held the distinguished title of Black Widow. Belova has ties to  S.H.I.E.L.D, Vanguard and Hydra. She’s a major character in Natasha’s history so of course she had to be there. People are speculating that Florence Pugh would be taking on Yelena’s role.

Cast and Crew of Black Widow Prequel

This next Marvel movie has an extraordinary cast and crew. Along with Scarlett Johansson, we are going to be seeing David Harbour, Ray Winstone, O-T Fagbenie, Rachel Weisz and Florence Pugh. Cate Shortland is taking on the director role where as Ned Benson and Jac Schaeffer are the screenplay writers. The production is happening in Norway and England as of now.

Our question of when does the next marvel movie come out has been answered it seems.

When is the Next Marvel Movie Coming Out

Black Widow Prequel release date seems to fall sometime around 2020. We don’t know if this is the next marvel movie we will see after Spiderman: Far From Home is released.
