B.I, the leader of the kpop group Ikon leaves the group after a drug scandal accusing him of purchasing illegal drugs resurfaces.
B.I’s Drug Scandal
The scandal started a few years back when the news of the singer trying to purchase illegal drugs started circulating. The case on the singer was eventually closed as there was not sufficient evidence. Recently a Korean news outlet Dispatch recovered the chat between the dealer and B.I.
Following this, the local media started accusing the singer for drug abuse and purchasing illegal drugs. The company the singer is under gave out a statement that the members of the group including B.I tested negative in a drug test. However, B.I on June 12 posted on his Instagram a statement announcing that he’s departing from the group. The post said,
This is Kim Han Bin.
First, I would like to sincerely apologize for stirring up trouble due to my tremendously inappropriate actions.
It is true that I wanted to rely on something that I shouldn’t have had any interest in due to going through a hard and painful time. However, I was too scared and fearful to do it.
Even so, I am so ashamed and apologetic to fans who were greatly disappointed and hurt because of my wrong words and actions.
I intend to humbly self-reflect on my mistake and leave the team.
Once again, I bow my head down and sincerely apologize to fans and the members. I apologize.
Following B.I’s post, YG Entertainment also issued a statement, as reported by Soompi confirmed B.I’s departure and the termination of his contract with the company.
Fans React By Starting a Petition
The fans of the group are deeply saddened by the news and are very hurt. B.I leaving, even though he hasn’t been officially charged with anything, has left the fans distraught. In reaction, a fan started a petition for keeping the singer in Ikon and urging him not to leave. The petition as of now has received over 400,000 signs with the goal being 500,000. It would only be a matter of a few hours that the fans will be able to receive their goal. And hopefully in result we’ll get to hear some good news regarding B.I.
