Unless you’ve been living under a rock, I’m sure you know that Beyoncé Knowles-Carter (Queen of the World), is part of the highly anticipated, upcoming Lion King movie. The live-action Disney remake will probably break the box office this July. And Beyoncé is playing the role of Nala (Simba’s childhood best friend and grown-up lover), along with many other celebrities playing other characters.
In a new teaser trailer released yesterday, we got to hear her voice as Nala for the very first time. Her soft, soothing vocals make for the perfect fit for Nala’s character.
We can’t wait for Beyoncé’s rendition of nostalgia-inducing Lion King music tracks like Can You Feel The Love Tonight. Needless to say, the movie will probably be leaving a lot of people in tears. Moreover, the meticulously selected cast includes stars like Seth Rogen, Donald Glover, Billy Eichner, etc. Hence, Director Jon Favreau seems to know what their doing.
Beyoncé in the Lion King Remake
The director explained to Entertainment Weekly why Beyoncé got interested in being cast in the movie:
I think that part of it is that she’s got young kids, part of it is that it’s a story that feels good for this phase of her life and her career — it’s a very positive story, it’s a classic that a lot of people feel very emotionally invested in — and I think she just really likes the original very much.
Both Beyoncé and Glover (a.k.a. Childish Gambino) worked with The Lion King’s reunited original music team in refreshing the film’s soundtrack for the new film.
Beyoncé Dresses As A Lioness
Meanwhile, Beyoncé is leaving no room for error. She is going all out on this Lion King thing. Attending the annual Wearable Art Gala with her daughter Ivy over the weekend, the Lemonade star arrived in a stunning gown-jumpsuit. With a sparkly bodice and a train of taffeta, she channeled her inner lioness. See below for yourself.
The Lion King will arrive in theaters on July 19.
