Jennifer Lawrence Did Dark Phoenix Returned Under One Special Condition
The X Men franchise is back to wrap up its journey on the screens. The last of the series Dark Phoenix will cap off two decades worth of movies from Marvel Comics. But this time, it marks the directorial debut of the writer and producer of several X Men movies- Simon Kinberg. Although taking on the role as a first time director on the final film in the series might look daunting, Kinberg had the full support of the entire cast. In fact, Jennifer Lawrence returned as Mystique only on the condition that Kinberg directed the movie.
Jennifer Lawrence Returned for Dark Phoenix Only if Simon Kinberg Directed
Since the first edition of X Men, Jennifer Lawrence along with James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender and Nicholas Hoult have been the star cast. All three actors had signed deals for three movies. But it was unclear if they will return for Dark Phoenix after X-Men: Apocalypse. However, all of them decided to join in for one last ride after Simon Kinberg sent them drafts about their characters.
Simon revealed that after Bryan Singer backed out of directing, the cast approached him for taking up on the role. They continually insisted, and Jennifer Lawrence had the lead. She promised to return for the last movie only under the condition that Kinberg would direct it. He shared that,
Part of the reason I presumed that was at the end of finishing X-Men: Apocalypse, when it was clear Bryan Singer was not going to direct the next movie, it was the actors that approached me about directing the next of the X-Men movies. Jennifer especially. Jen said she wouldn’t come back for another movie unless I directed it. So, I had a lot of support from them.
Dark Phoenix starring Sophie Turner as the lead is all set for its premiere on 7th June.
