We love it when talent gets appreciated. And what better place for that than awards. The Gracie Awards 2019 took place on 22nd May and our favorite character from Schitt’s Creek took an award home.
Annie Murphy Wins
The 32-year-old actress took home the award for the best breakthrough performance at the the Gracie Awards 2019. The actress plays the part of Alexis Rose in the hit Canadian sitcom, Schitt’s Creek. Emily Hampshire, a costar of Annie Murphy’s from the sitcom, congratulated the actress with a post on her Instagram. In the caption, Hampshire writes,
The most beautiful (INSIDE and obvs. out) and supremely talented woman that i’m regularly in awe of and feel lucky to call a friend, WON the Best Breakthrough Performance at the #GracieAwards CONGRATS @annefrances u deserve it!
What Are The Gracie Awards?
We don’t fault you for not knowing what award show this is. Because obviously it is not as popular as the Oscars or Emmys but it is just as important. Maybe even more so, especially for women. The Gracie Award show is presented by Alliance For Women. It’s that one award show where the hard-work of the women of the film industry is appreciated and recognized. Seeing Annie Murphy win and Hampshire congratulating her is certainly endearing.
Annie Murphy Talks About Alexis’s Character Development In Schitt’s Creek
At the red carpet of the award show, Murphy stopped to talk to ET Canada and told them about her Schitt’s Creeks character journey throughout the series. She also talks about how her character, Alexis Rose, has developed and shaped her as a better human being.
Unfortunately for us, we won’t be seeing more of Alexis’s journey as the Canadian sitcom is coming to an end. Although, the show has been renewed for another, we’ll have to say goodbye to it after season 6 ends. All five seasons are available to stream on Netflix, however.
Schitt’s Creek’s cast includes Daniel Levy, Eugene Levy, Christine O’ Hara and Annie Murphy.
