Ellen DeGeneres Pours Scorn On President Dr Mokgweetsi E.K. Masisi For Lifting Ban On Elephant Hunting In Botswana
Botswana, a nation that homes approximately one-third of all elephants in Africa, has reportedly lifted the ban on elephant poaching. The elephant population has tripled since 1991. This was because Botswana put sanctions on big-game hunting. Though, this posed a problem to farmers. The current government led by Dr Mokgweetsi E.K. Masisi has thus decided to lift the ban to resolve the problem. Botswana’s former president Ian Khama and the Botswana Wildlife Producers Association have criticized the move and has ignited mass protests across the globe. American TV talk show host, Ellen DeGeneres, in particular, is angered by the incompetency of the Botswanian government to conserve its precious wildlife. DeGeneres has publicly called out Bostwaninan president, Dr Mokgweetsi E.K. Masisi over the issue.
Ellen Won’t Give Up Fighting To Save Elephants
Ellen DeGeneres is a passionate champion for wildlife conservation. Elephants, in particular, pique her interest, and the comedian has on numerous instances encouraged people to join in the efforts for their protection. Back in 2017, Ellen had launched a #BeKindToElephants campaign following Trump’s decision to allow trophy elephants in the US. While Trump initially paid heed to DeGeneres’ protest, he later reversed the decision the following year. This ignited Ellen’s wrath again, who took to her show to bring the issue into national focus. Ellen has also encouraged people to sponsor and volunteer for the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust, an organization working for the preservation of exotic wildlife.

Ellen DeGeneres And Yashar Ali Charge Against President Dr Mokgweetsi E.K. Masisi For Lifting Elephant-Hunting Ban
With Botswana now lifting sanctions on large-scale Elephant hunting across the nation, an enraged Ellen DeGeneres has openly slammed the country’s president, Dr Mokgweetsi E.K. Masisi. Quoting a tweet by HuffPost contributor Yashar Ali, DeGeneres has warned president Masisi to alter his policies regarding elephant hunting. Ali criticizes President Masisi for using elephants as a political tool. Yashar states that his order in favor of elephant hunting will help Masisi curry favor with rural voters. Moreover, Yashar has also quoted statistics from Tanzania, which lost around 60% of elephants to poaching. T
Ellen DeGeneres seconds Yashar Ali in his claims. She insists that for every person who wants an elephant to be killed, there are millions who want them to be protected. She has openly announced that “We’re Watching”. It serves as a dire warning of the consequences the pro-hunting act would eventually entail.
