This year’s Shorty Awards might offer the biggest surprises to anyone! Not only did Shane Dawson win the Shorty Award for YouTuber of the Year, but Will Smith failed to win breakout YouTuber. Well, as shocking and upsetting as Smith’s defeat might be, the internet is still filled with celebration for Dawson. Maybe what makes this win even great for Dawson and his fans is that he scored amidst a recent controversy. Plus, lets not forget that Shane faced some serious competition from other celebrity YouTubers!
Shane Dawson Wins Shorty Award for ‘YouTuber of the Year’ But Fails at Acceptance Speech
Looks like Shane Dawson should be proud he brought home this award while the last few months have been fairly interesting for him. It seems like he was forced to clarify he did not assault his cat, and even apologize to him after his attempt at a joke. But the situation was made even harder as Shane faced competition for this Award from other YouTubers including Andre ‘Black Nerd’ Meadows, Colleen Ballinger, David Dobrik, DeStorm Power, Emma Chamberlain, Guava Juice, James Charles, Lauren Giraldo, Michelle Khare, Tana Mongeau and Zane Hijazi. However, lets not raise doubts at his credibility for the Shorty Award. After all, his work on Jake Paul did deserve some serious appreciation.
Shane Dawson might be a great fit for the Award, but looks like he isn’t as good with speeches. Maybe. he is too humble to boast publicly? After 30 seconds at the mic, Dawson realized he was not good at it. But Kathy Griffin took up the stage for him winning over the internet with her speech. She spoke up for Dawson introducing him to the audience, talking about his family struggles. In fact, she moved on to naming personalities including Jeffree Star that he worked with.
Probably what makes the evening special for Dawson is that his fiance Ryland Adams took home an award too. He won a Shorty Award for vlogger of the Year.
